Unreasonable@Sea is a radical experiment in global entrepreneurship to combat the greatest challenges of our time. What is Unreasonable@Sea? An adventure that included 20 Mentors, 100 days, 1 ship, 13 countries, 11 ventures, and 1 core belief: that entrepreneurship will change the world.
The Unreasonable Institute based in Boulder, Chicago, a fast-paced accelerator that incubates entrepreneurs that are changing the world, decided to pilot a different type of adventure. Eleven technological driven social enterprises embarked in a journey around the world on a boat, where the boat became a moving incubator to fast-forward ideas with the mentorship of some of the most talented people of the entrepreneurial world. And after 100 days at sea, the 25th April saw the final port arrival of the ship that ended its journey in Barcelona. Teamlabs wanted to be part of this experience and was there to meet them in a unique event. Entrepreneurs, LEINNers, school students, Stanford students, gangsters from the Makesense community, and the local community came together in a once in a lifetime event that connected an ecosystem of ordinary people doing extraordinary things together.
Thanks to the wonderful space at Barcelona Activa, around 60 people between the ages of 16 to 50, got together in a workshop co-organised by Teamlabs, that had as a main objective to inspire youth in Barcelona and in Europe to change the world through social entrepreneurship. The format of the workshop focused on identifying challenges (needs) the participants observed in Barcelona, linking them with their passions, and generating business ideas and a first prototype which allowed them to solve their user needs. A design thinking experiment put to action to solve some of the most challenging issues in Barcelona, today!
The energy of the participants was palpable. Eight hours spent working on solutions, which culminated in inspiring pitches that showed the creativity of multidisciplinary, intergenerational, intercultural teams! “Speaking out my ideas in complete freedom, with no judgment, and having people from all over the world constructing upon them made me open my eyes to a completely different way of learning”, said Sofia Mojico, a student from the German School in Barcelona.
It is hard to capture in words the day we lived. But what is clear, is that the extraordinary is here and happening!
